What are your options for portraits this fall?
If you're searching the Internet to have portraits done this fall, you may feel more confused the more you search. Santa and Cookies? Fall Leaves? Santa AND LEAVES? Just the kids? All of us? Can I bring the family pet? HUH? Please allow me to clarify for you.
I am offering three options this fall.
1. Holiday-Themed Photos
Many families like having fun portraits taken of the children to send out as holiday cards. They dress them up in holiday clothing and are thrilled to have a photographer who can capture all of the children, looking cooperative and festive, in one single image. (Individuals of the children are a blessing as well.) In addition to having cards made, families create prints and ornaments, etc., to give as gifts to loved ones who cherish updated images of the children as they grow.
These sessions are typically short and sweet and last no longer than 10-15 minutes.
If your child is dressed in festive holiday clothing, do you feel like it makes sense to have them photographed against fall foliage? We don't normally associate Santa with dead leaves, and yet we do want to have photos captured well before winter so there is time to have prints made and to give as gifts for the holidays. For cohesive, mindful creating, I recommend having an in-studio holiday card session.
Backgrounds include a warm Christmas scene, and simple gray, and pure white.
This year, I'll be having studio days with my ECP elves to help make the experience magical for your children.
2. Fall Family Portraits
Other families prefer having timeless family portraits made, with a background that is brilliant and warm and gorgeous. Unlike holiday photos, families dress in clothing that is more timeless. Some families have their images captured every year, while others do this every few years, or when a college student returns home over Thanksgiving break, for example. These sessions typically last between 20-45 minutes, depending on how quickly everyone becomes comfortable in front of the camera. The families who do this type of session typically use their images for a family portrait to hang on the wall - an art piece - featuring the people you love most of all. While they're at it, they also use some favorites to have cards sent out. (They tend to choose cards with gold tones, rather than traditional red, green our blue for Christmas and Hanukkah.) Some families also use this time to have an album made, and they collect them throughout the years. Thanksgiving weekend always books quickly because that is when families come together, and it's a great time to have an extended family portrait made that features, for example, Grandma, Grandpa, and all of their grandchildren.
3. Both!
Families who book their Fall Portrait Sessions with me, and complete their ordering sessions BEFORE Holiday-Themed Session day receive a lovely incentive for booking both.
Prints? Digitals? Albums? Canvases?
There is no need to decide how you'd like to enjoy your images until AFTER you see them. When you come back to my studio for your ordering session, I can help you decide based on your wall space, style, and preferences. I even show you what images will look like, in specific sizes, on our walls. Digital images are of extremely high value because they come with permission to print them as many times as you'd like, from wherever you'd like, for as long as you have them. Some people love having digitals so they can do what they'd want with them, while other people prefer to have me handle everything from having the prints created into beautiful, tangible pieces without having to run to framers or make lots of little decisions. Most people love having products AND digitals.
Typically, Holiday Themed Sessions result in more digital purchases, while Fall Portrait Sessions result in more tangible art, but the choice is yours!
Please Contact me to inquire about any, or all, of these sessions!
